Contemporary beauty, quality and refined connection of ZOE church chairs was preceded by our many years of work with solid wood with regard to the needs of the modern church. Today, these chairs, which can be connected to each other to form a pew, erase all prejudices and rumours about uncomfortable church seating.
The holy masses in the past were completely different from what we know them today. During them, the preacher stood in the middle of the circle of believers, talking to them from close range. Thus, churches did not offer seating. Believers could only stand or kneel.
“And the word of the LORD came to Solomon, saying: Concerning this house which thou art in building, if thou wilt walk in my statutes, and execute my judgments, and keep all my commandments to walk in them; then will I perform my word with thee, which I spake unto David thy father.“

Later, the first church pews, made of stone, were created, hard and uncomfortable, placed along the walls. Most visitors to the church continued to choose to stand during Mass. Only the production of massive wooden pews brought a little comfort to churches.
These were masterfully crafted pews with high backs, sometimes “boxes” for whole families, with carved motifs from stories from the Bible and the figures of saints. Each bench was a precious piece. The best of them have survived for several hundred years and are still used in historic churches, others are already part of the museum’s collections.

Church seating today – more comfortable than ever

Fixed or flexible church seating?
In the last century, the church seating consisted of heavy benches attached to the floor. It was impossible to move them – they remained tens to hundreds of years where they were originally placed.
For a modern church, such a traditional sitting is a bit impractical. Sometimes it is necessary to move the benches, create more space for standing, change the layout of chairs or benches.
That’s why we developed ZOE church chairs.
